FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Everything schools, teachers, and parents usually ask about Qalabash.

    What is Qalabash?

Qalabash is a school management platform built for African schools. It brings attendance, grades, fees, timetables, discipline, and parent communication together in one place — replacing paper registers, WhatsApp groups, and scattered spreadsheets.

    Who is Qalabash for?

Primary and secondary schools, the teachers who run their classrooms, and the parents who follow their children's progress. Schools pay for Qalabash. Teachers and parents use it for free.

Which countries does Qalabash work in?

Qalabash is a pan-African platform. It supports schools in all 54 African countries — Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe — with local currencies, phone number formats, and grading systems built in for each. Both Anglophone and Francophone schools are first-class.

    What languages does Qalabash support?

English and French. Both are first-class — every screen, dialog, and email is fully translated so a school can run entirely in either language.

    How much does Qalabash cost?

Qalabash uses simple per-user pricing in FCFA. Parents and teachers always use it for free; schools pay based on the number of students and staff. See the pricing page for the current rate.

Do parents and teachers need to pay?

No. Parents and teachers never pay for Qalabash. Only the school is billed.

    Does Qalabash work on phones?

Yes. Teachers and parents use Qalabash on their phones — it is installable as a Progressive Web App on Android and iOS, and a native Android app is planned. The school administrator dashboard works on phones, tablets, and laptops.

    Does Qalabash work offline?

The teacher and parent apps work on slow and intermittent connections. Pages cache so you can keep viewing the latest data, and most actions retry automatically once the network is back.

    How does Qalabash handle fees?

Schools record fees and payments in FCFA or any African currency. Parents see what is owed and what has been paid for each child. Reports show outstanding balances at the class and school level.

    Can Qalabash generate report cards?

Yes. Once grades are entered for a term, Qalabash generates branded report card PDFs for every student in a class, using the school's grading system and term structure.

How does Qalabash keep school data private?

Every school has its own private workspace. Row-level security at the database level prevents one school from ever seeing another school's data. We do not sell data and we do not run ads.

Can parents and teachers message each other directly?

No. Qalabash intentionally does not include direct messaging between parents and teachers. Schools control communication through announcements and class updates so it stays professional and reviewable.

How does a school sign up?

Schools sign up themselves from the homepage — name, email, password, and they are in. A short onboarding wizard sets up the school profile and lets the admin invite teachers in bulk by email or CSV.

Can I import students and teachers from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Both students and teachers can be imported from CSV or Excel, and the student importer also accepts PDFs and AI-assisted extraction for messy source files.
